A trialling programme is central to many aspects of quality control. It enables the trueness to type of a variety to be judged, the uniformity of production mother stock to be assessed, and as an aid to sales and marketing.
For example, W. Legutko grows out the most extensive trials in Poland. This is done for several reasons – quality control of stock seed and product; breeding; sales & marketing. Trialling at this scale is critical to the success of W. Legutko as a company, enabling monitoring of the varieties that customers are growing in their own gardens.
