Growing: general advice on the sowing and growing of wildflower seeds.
− Sowing can be at any time of year, but best results for germination if sown when high soil moisture conditions can be maintained.
− Wildflowers can be sown with grass seed, but care should be taken since the grass can smother the wildflowers.
− Clear ground of grass and weeds either by repeated turning of the soil or by treating with herbicide.
− Avoid fertilisers - wildflowers thrive better in low nutrient soil conditions.
− A fine tilth in the seed bed is better than a coarse tilth.
− Broadcast the seed by hand, making this as uniform distribution as possible.
− After sowing firm down the bed to press seed into the soil.
− After establishment treat as a meadow - mow at the end of the season, remove the cuttings after leaving for a little while for the seeds to ripen and fall.
